Koala Sightings
Reporting Koala sightings in our region is very important. Please report all your Gympie Region Koala sightings in WILDWATCH GYMPIE
It is suggested that you read the Instructions before using Wildwatch for first time.
You can also click on the ‘Koala Dashboard’ to see the map of koala sightings and the data being collected.
Why report a Koala sighting?
The koala is now considered endangered in Queensland, NSW and the ACT. Citizen science (your observations) helps to build a better picture of the koala populations in our region. It shows where they persist, the habitats they use and helps to monitor how the population is faring over time. Importantly, this data helps to guide conservation efforts, and to ensure koalas are considered in planning and development decisions.

These words from Gympie Regional Council explain the importance of reporting all threatened species sightings including koalas.
“By working together to capture data about the location and health of our local wildlife, we can better understand their habitat and threats, as well as better identify priority areas for conservation and rehabilitation efforts.”
