WELCOME TO KOALA ACTION GYMPIE REGION INC
CREATING A KOALA-AWARE COMMUNITY
Koalas are part of the wonderful biodiversity of the Gympie Region which makes us custodians of Australia’s most loved and iconic wildlife species. The koala is an important part of Australia’s natural and cultural heritage and is Queensland’s fauna emblem.
This endangered species is in decline in Queensland facing multiple threats to its survival. As custodians, we have a responsibility to ensure remaining koala populations across our region do not disappear too. The good news is there is much we can all do for the survival of koalas in the wild.
Koala Action Gympie Region (KAGR) was formed in 2015 with the aim of engaging the whole community in helping to achieve this.

- Deal with feral pests–wild dogs prey on koalas.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Share your ideas with us on what would help koalas in your locality. Let’s see what can be done!
We love them, but will our koalas be here for future generations to enjoy and protect?
We are looking for landholders, residing in koala hotspots, who can plant part of their property to connect and improve the habitat for koalas.
Story Map ‘Koalas of Gympie Region’
In 2024 we created this Story Map to share our learnings from nearly 10 years of koala conservation in Gympie Region. It is interactive, linking to our region’s live koala database ‘Wildwatch’.
Story Maps are interactive web applications that are great to showcase stories about conservation, raise awareness, and inspire action. We hope this inspires you.
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and work, and pay our respects to elders’ past, present and emerging.
