GYMPIE REGIONS KOALAS
You can help us by providing details of sightings any time you spot a koala
Koalas are found in most of the Gympie Region. You can see some of the details of this on the GRC website in their Koala Management Plan which also shows corridors for koalas. Data is also available via the council application WILDWATCH dashboards which show where sightings have been recorded in our region.
These records are absolutely crucial to the survival of this species for many reasons. This data informs the council’s planning scheme. It is also used by Transport and Main Roads when they are considering changes to their road system. Lack of information at these times makes koalas extremely vulnerable to habitat loss and fragmentation.
If we, as a group, wish to provide useful feedback to government at any level we need to have accurate up to the minute data. We count on your support for this.
We encourage everyone to report sightings to add to the current data base. The picture below demonstrates the power of citizen science.
